  • Keep the head of the bed up for several days…do not lie flat!
  • If you have drip pads under your nose, change them as needed with gauze.
  • If you have packs in the nose, you will need to have them removed in the office 2 days after the surgery.  Takes some Tylenol or your narcotic pain medication before you come.  Do not drive yourself to this appointment.
  • If you have splints, they will be removed about 1 week after the surgery.
  • If you have a cast in place, it will be removed along with the splints.
  • Depending on the type of surgery, you may need to tape the nose day and night for 2 weeks and then 2 weeks only during the night… this will be explained at your post office visit at one week.
  • Depending on the type of surgery, you may need be instructed to not wear glasses or sunglasses for 4-6 weeks after the surgery.
  • Depending on the surgery you may need to use ointments, salt water sprays and inhale steam….your surgeon will prescribe these as necessary.
  • If you have bleeding, sit up straight, pinch the nostrils gently together and hold for 10 minutes.  If the bleeding continues, spray Afrin nasal spray into nose, then apply Cortisporin ointment, and pinch nostrils together again for 10 minutes. If the bleeding persists, call the office.
  • Medications after Surgery: (May or may not be prescribed, depending on your surgery.

            Rx: antibiotic for 5 days with one refill in case of infection
            Rx: Pain medication - you’ll probably need 10 pills as the pain is not severe and
                  can be controlled using Tylenol
            Rx: Cortisporin ointment - 2-3 tubes, you’ll receive these the day of surgery
            OTC: Salinex nasal spray - you’ll use at least 2-3 bottles
            OTC: Afrin spray - buy a small bottle in case of bleeding
            OTC: Q-tips - generic with white cardboard sticks are best
